Democracy requires citizen participation, and the actions that a citizen is called upon to take include voting; paying taxes; becoming educated -- and then continuing lifelong education to ensure that knowledge and skills keep pace with advancements not only to meet current and future employment demands but also to remain aware of local, state, national and world events as well as cultural and social forces that shape our society.
Bearing one's civic responsibilities with integrity and consistency can be demanding and at times difficult, but there are many tools, resources, and support services available to help individual citizens as well as a community in their efforts.
